fripSide（フリップサイド）は、日本の男女3人組音楽ユニット。2002年結成。所属芸能事務所はスリーナインエンタテインメント。所属レコード会社兼レーベルはNBCユニバーサル・エンターテイメントジャパン。公式ファンクラブは「freakSide」。
概説
概要

2002年に八木沼がインターネットでボーカルを募集、当時高校生だったnaoが選ばれて結成された[2]。2003年に第1期1stアルバム『first odyssey of fripSide』で同人デビュー、徐々に販路を拡げ2008年に第1期1stシングル「flower of bravery」でメジャーデビューを果たすものの、2009年にnaoが卒業。同年に2代目ボーカルとして南條愛乃を迎え、第2期1stシングル「only my railgun」で再メジャーデビューを果たす。2022年に南條が卒業、同年に3代目ボーカルとして上杉と阿部の2名を迎える。nao在籍期を第1期、南條在籍期を第2期、上杉・阿部在籍期を第3期とそれぞれ称されている。
ユニット名

ユニット名は八木沼による造語で、レコードのB面を意味するflip sideが由来となっており、八木沼の「全部の曲をA面のつもりで作りたい」という意志が込められている。“S”のみが大文字なのは、八木沼の名前である悟志の“Satoshi”を掛けており、著作権と商標の観点からスペル違いのアメリカ合衆国オークランド出身のバンド・フリップサイドと、イベント企画会社・フリップサイドと区分されている。
音楽性

小室哲哉や浅倉大介らが筆頭となって普及させてきた「デジタルJ-POPの灯を絶やさない」をテーマに[3][4]、「アニメやゲームに寄り添いたい」というエゴをスタンスにしている[5]。

八木沼は第1期を自身の持つ音楽的な素養から、どういうものをピックアップして、どういうものを並べていくのかっていうのを模索してた「実験場」と追懐している。一方、第2期は南條のボーカルを前提に、今まで培ってきた音楽性をうまく融合させ、よりパブリックに耐え得る音楽を展開していくことをコンセプトにしている[6][7]。

また、「なんちゃん（南條愛乃の愛称の一つ）の歌声が理想なのであって、僕（八木沼）は彼女が歌えば成立する枠組みを用意しているつもりなので」「僕がサウンドを作って、なんちゃんが歌えばfripSideなんですよね」という趣旨のことも、しばしば言及している[8]。

第2期以降は2ndアルバム『Decade』を除き、「無限の統合」を意味するinfinite synthesisをタイトルに冠している。3rdアルバム『infinite synthesis 3』発売時に八木沼は「fripSideのテーマであり、fripSideとしての活動の幅を表すもの」と公言している[9]。ベストアルバムに関しては、第1期から引き続き『the very best of fripSide』をタイトルに冠している。
fripSide NAO project!

naoのソロプロジェクト。スタッフは第1期fripSideと同じ。当初は別名義プロジェクトとして2007年にビジュアルアーツから「naoさんが電波ソングを歌ったらどうだろう」という提案をされたが、八木沼はfripSideの確立したスタンスを超えることをしたくなかったため、ソロプロジェクトに移行した経緯がある[10]。
