バンドのロゴ。複数あるが、このタイプが一番多く使用されている。

BOOWY[注釈 1]（ボウイ）は、日本のロックバンド。1980年代に活躍。1981年、群馬県高崎市出身の氷室京介、布袋寅泰、松井恒松を中心に東京で結成される。初ライブ後に高橋まことが加入し、1982年3月に『MORAL』でレコードデビュー[6]。当初は6人編成だったが同年秋に2人が脱退し、以降は解散まで4人編成で活動する。
概要

8（エイト）ビートを基調としポップでありながらもシャープでエッジの効いた縦ノリのロックサウンドや、ジャン＝ポール・ゴルチエをステージ衣装に使用したり、逆立てたヘアースタイルなどの斬新なビジュアル等が多くの支持を集め、5thアルバム『BEAT EMOTION』と6thアルバム『PSYCHOPATH』は当時のロックバンドのアルバムとしては異例のミリオンセラーを記録した。シングルでも1987年に『MARIONETTE』が初登場1位を記録し、名実ともにトップバンドへとのし上がった。

しかし人気絶頂の最中の1987年12月24日に解散を宣言。この突然の出来事は世間に大きな衝撃を与えた。翌年1988年4月4日、5日に完成直後の東京ドームで行った『LAST GIGS』にてバンド活動に終止符を打つ。9万枚以上用意されていたこのライブのチケットは僅か10分で完売、予約の電話が殺到した結果、文京区の電話回線がパンクするという事態も起こり、これら一連の流れからBOOWY（ボウイ）の人気は社会現象にまで発展した。

翌月にリリースされた『“LAST GIGS”』は、ライブ・アルバムとしては異例とも言える150万枚のセールスを記録している。また、フォトグラファー加藤正憲によって撮影された『“GIGS” JUST A HERO TOUR 1986』のジャケット写真は、BOOWY（ボウイ）を象徴する一枚として有名である。
