1961年のNFL

1961年のAFLは、1970年にNFLと合併したAFLの2年目のシーズンである。この年、ロサンゼルス・チャージャーズがサンディエゴに移転し、サンディエゴ・チャージャーズと名前を改めた。

第2回AFLチャンピオンシップでヒューストン・オイラーズがサンディエゴ・チャージャーズを10対3で破り、オイラーズが2年連続でチャンピオンに輝いた。
概要

AFLは8チームで構成され、2つの地区に分けられ、各チームはホーム・アンド・アウェーで他の7チームと対戦し、計14試合のシーズンを戦った。そして、各地区の1位（同率首位の場合はプレイオフで決定）がチャンピオンシップで戦い、AFLチャンピオンを決定した。

西地区では、本拠地をロサンゼルスからサンディエゴに移転したチャージャーズが開幕11連勝を飾り、最終的に12勝1敗で地区優勝に輝いた。東地区では、シーズン中盤までタイタンズ・ペイトリオッツ・オイラーズの三つ巴の混戦となったが、終盤にオイラーズが混戦を抜け出し、10勝3敗1分で地区優勝に輝いた。
