^ 例えばフランスとイタリアが共同で行ったFREMM計画の場合、イタリア海軍向けのカルロ・ベルガミーニ級は艦種呼称・記号ともに「フリゲート」とされているが[11]、フランス海軍向けのアキテーヌ級は、呼称は「フリゲート」とされている一方で記号は駆逐艦を意味する「D」とされている[12]。またカルロ・ベルガミーニ級を元にアメリカ海軍向けに開発されたコンステレーション級は、満載排水量7,291トンまで大型化しつつも、艦種呼称・記号ともに「フリゲート」とされている[13]。
