通信社（つうしんしゃ）とは、報道機関や民間企業の需要にこたえて一般向けニュース（ゼネラル・ニュース）や経済・金融情報（コマーシャル・ニュース）の収集、配信を行う組織である。

ロイター、AP通信、フランス通信社（AFP）にて世界三大通信社を構成する [1]。

に類別している。国際通信社は世界100カ国以上に支社局があり、24 時間活動し、1日数十万語を収集、数百万語を配信する、100カ国以上の新聞、放送、通信など数千の顧客に記事を配信する、英語、フランス語、ドイツ語、オランダ語、ロシア語、アラビア語など多言語で配信する組織と定義している [2]。
