注釈^ 西周、中江兆民らも各々「善美学」「佳趣論」等の訳語を創出した。なお、明治14年（1881年）初版の井上哲次郎編『哲学字彙』(東洋館)では、美学の訳語として「美妙学」が採用されていた。
^ 「完全な感性的言語 oratio sensitiva perfecta」（「詩」を指している）を典型とする芸術一般は美にかかわるから、aesthetica は「芸術理論 theoria artium liberalium」（同1節）である。:（ aesthetica ＝ 感性的認識論 ＝ 美について考察する学 ＝ 芸術理論 ）バウムガルテンの体系においては、美や芸術に関する学的考察である感性的認識論は、理性的認識論との対比において「疑似理性の学 ars analogi rationis」であり、「下位の認識論 gnoseologia inferior」（同1節）として位置づけられた
