第一次世界大戦（だいいちじせかいたいせん、英: World War I、略称：WWI）は、1914年（大正3年）7月28日から1918年（大正7年）11月11日にかけて、連合国と中央同盟国間で行われた世界規模の戦争である。
7000万人以上の軍人（うちヨーロッパ人は6000万人）が動員され、世界史上最大の戦争の一つとなった[5][6]。第二次産業革命による技術革新と塹壕戦による戦線の膠着で死亡率が大幅に上昇し、ジェノサイドの犠牲者を含めた戦闘員900万人以上と非戦闘員700万人以上が死亡した。史上死亡者数の最も多い戦争の一つである。
戦争が長引いたことで、各地で革命が勃発し、4つの帝国（ドイツ帝国、オーストリア＝ハンガリー帝国、オスマン帝国、ロシア帝国）が崩壊した。
