百年戦争（ひゃくねんせんそう、英語: Hundred Years' War、フランス語: Guerre de Cent Ans）は、フランス王国の王位継承およびイングランド王家がフランスに有する広大な領土をめぐり、フランス王国を治めるヴァロワ朝と、イングランド王国を治めるプランタジネット朝およびランカスター朝というフランス人王朝同士の争いに、フランスの領主たちが2派に分かれて戦った内戦である。国家という概念は薄い時代であり、封建諸侯の領地争いが重なったものであったが、戦争を経て次第に国家・国民としてのアイデンティティーが形成されるに至った[1]。現在のフランスとイギリスの国境線が決定した戦争でもある。百年戦争は19世紀初期にフランスで用いられるようになった呼称で、イギリスでも19世紀後半に慣用されるようになった。
伝統的に1337年11月1日のエドワード3世によるフランスへの挑戦状送付から1453年10月19日のボルドー陥落までの116年間の対立状態を指すが、歴史家によっては、実際にギュイエンヌ、カンブレーにおいて戦闘が開始された1339年を開始年とする説もある。いずれにしても戦争状態は間欠的なもので、休戦が宣言された時期もあり、終始戦闘を行っていたというわけではないが、対立状態は続いていた。そのため実態としては百年騒乱とも言うべきものだった。
両国とも自国で戦費を賄うことができなかった。フランスはジェノヴァ共和国に、イングランドはヴェネツィア共和国に、それぞれ外債を引き受けさせた。

百年戦争の原因は、14世紀ヨーロッパの人口、経済、そして政治の危機にある。遠因はイングランド王国（プランタジネット家）とフランス王国（ヴァロワ家）とのギュイエンヌ、フランドル、スコットランドにおける対立によってもたらされた。戦争の正式な理由はカペー家の直系男児の断絶である。

987年のユーグ・カペー即位以来フランス国王として君臨し続けたカペー朝は、1328年、シャルル4世の死によって男子の継承者を失い、王位はシャルル4世の従兄弟にあたるヴァロワ伯フィリップに継承された。フィリップは1328年、フィリップ6世としてランスでの戴冠式を迎えたが、戴冠式に先立って、イングランド王エドワード3世は自らの母（シャルル4世の妹イザベル）の血統を主張して、フィリップ6世のフランス王位継承に異を唱えた。エドワード3世は自らの王位継承権を認めさせるための特使を派遣したが、フランス諸侯を説得することができず、1329年にはフィリップ6世に対し、ギュイエンヌ公として臣下の礼を捧げて王位を認めた。

プランタジネット・イングランド王朝の始祖ヘンリー2世は、アンジュー伯としてフランス王を凌駕する広大な地域を領地としていたが、ジョン（欠地王、ヘンリー2世の末子）の失策と敵対者であるフィリップ2世（尊厳王）の策略によって、13世紀はじめまでにその大部分を剥奪されていた。
