^ 現在の中国で識別されている「満族」のうち、満洲語を母語として話す（または話していた）ことが確認されているのは黒竜江省の農村部に分布するごく少数である。それ以外、特に都市部に居住する「満族」は中国語を母語としている。満洲語と満洲文字は清朝の第一公用語で行政言語であり清朝は満洲族に対し満洲語の学習をたびたび奨励したが、書記言語は公用文として使用されたものの、音声言語の使用は次第にすたれた。最後の皇帝であった愛新覚羅溥儀は幼少時にイクタン（伊克坦（中国語版））という教師から満洲語を学んだが、習得できたのは、宮中儀礼の際、平伏しご機嫌伺いをした満洲人大臣に対し発する「イリ」（「ili」、立つを意味する「ilimbi」の命令形）のみだった。
