2006年（平成18年）には設立70周年を迎え、記念事業の一環として映画『映画監督って何だ!』を伊藤俊也監督で製作し、同作は多数の協会員監督が出演した事でも話題となった。

1943年（昭和18年） - 戦時体制のもと解散

1950年（昭和25年） - 中小企業等協同組合法による事業協同組合となる
