注釈^ 捕虜の定義は、1907年のハーグ陸戦条約附属規則では第1条 - 第3条、1929年の俘虜の待遇に関する条約では第1条、1949年のジュネーヴ第3条約では第4条にある。
^ 例：ハーグ陸戦条約（陸戦ノ法規慣例ニ関スル条約）では、prisonniers de guerre（フランス語）の訳語に「俘虜」[3]を用いている。
^ マーワルディーによると、多神教徒から来る財として戦利品であるファイ（ロシア語版）（fay‘）[9]とガニーマ（アラビア語版）（ghan?ma）[10]について述べている。ファイはウマイヤ朝カリフ、ウマル2世によってムスリム全体のために保有される征服地の土地として分配不可能な不動産を指し、ガニーマは分配可能な動産を指す。マーワルディーは、うち、ガニーマの種類として、戦争捕虜、敵方の婦女子の捕虜、不動産および動産の4つを上げている。
