注釈^ ビルハルツ住血吸虫は、もともとはカバの寄生虫であったと考えられる[16]。エジプトでは約4000年前のパピルス文書にもその記述があり、ツタンカーメン王のミイラの内臓部からも寄生虫卵の遺存が確認されている[16]。
^ ナイル川流域に生活する80パーセント以上の住民が保虫者とされている[16]。
