^ a b 聖武天皇が当時流行した悪病を退散するため、室城神社に弓矢を奉納したという言い伝えがある。以来、『矢形餅の神事』では弓と矢を形どった餅を作り人々に配る事で疫病除けとしている。
^ 『論語・八?第三』原文：子曰、君子無所爭。必也射乎。揖讓而升、下而飮、其爭也君子。
訳：君子はめったな事で争う事はなく、あるとすれば射礼の時のみである。しかしその時でさえ礼儀正しく、会釈をして互いに譲り合い堂（射場）に上り、射終わり堂を下りると杯を酌み交わす。これが君子たる争いである。
