子宮体がんは治癒することが多いのに対し、子宮肉腫は一般的に治療が困難である[1]。治療には、手術、放射線治療、化学療法、ホルモン療法、標的治療などを組み合わせた方法があげられる[2][3]。診断後5年以上の生存率は80%強である[4]。

2015年には、世界中で約380万人が影響を受け、9万人が死亡した[5][6]。子宮体がんは比較的一般的あるが、子宮肉腫はまれである[1]。米国では、子宮がんは新規がん症例の3.6%を占めている[4]。55歳から74 歳の女性に最も多く発症する[4]。
分類

子宮癌（しきゅうがん、英: Uterine cancer）は、子宮に発生する悪性腫瘍

のうち以下の二つを総称したもの。

子宮体癌（Endometrial cancer、子宮内膜癌とも言う）

子宮頸癌（Cervical cancer）
なお日本産科婦人科学会では、「子宮がん」は定義があいまいであり、上記2疾患は明確に区別すべきとして、この用語を廃止するよう厚生労働省に要望するとしている[9][10]。
