SI国際文書の第1版（1970年）?第4版（1981年）までの版はメートル条約の公用語であるフランス語版のみであったが、第5版（1985年）以降は、フランス語版と英語版が同時に公表されており[5]、最新版は第9版（2019年）である[6]。公式な文書は第9版（2019年）文書の前半部分のフランス語版である。
