^ なお、異民族間の共通語を表す「リングワ・フランカ」は、「フランク人の言葉」という意味だが、実際に十字軍時代から東地中海で通商に用いられ「リングワ・フランカ」と呼ばれたロマンス語系のビジネス混合言語は実質的にはオック語とイタリア語に基づくものである。
