VegetarianTimesの出版社であるPaulObisは「PETAは全体として、動物の権利について、新しいレベルの興奮と正直さと威風をもたらした」「PETAは動物の権利を高いレベルの意識に持っていき、問題を大幅に広げて菜食主義を包含し、それを主流に持ち込んだ」という [13]。動物実験支持者であるフランキー・トラル（全米生物医学研究協会の会長）は次のように嘆く。「PETAは彼らの世界観に基づいて世論を操作する良い仕事をしている。」「彼らの最大の専門知識は広報です。彼らは動物に対する人々の敏感さを利用することに非常に精通しています」[13]
