中国の文化遺産保護制度は、主に次の4項目から成り立っている。
文物保護単位
国家レベル、省レベル、市レベル、県レベルの四段階があり、特に国家レベルのものを「全国重点文物保護単位」と称する。
歴史文化都市
国家レベル、省レベルの二段階があり、特に国家レベルのものを「国家歴史文化名城」と称する。
歴史文化地区
国家レベル、省レベルの二段階があり、特に国家レベルのものを「中国歴史文化名鎮」および「中国歴史文化名村」と称する。
風景名勝区
国家レベル、省レベルの二段階があり、特に国家レベルのものを「国家級風景名勝区（国家重点風景名勝区）」と称する。

^ a b 太平天国忠王府は、1964年10月26日に取り消され、文化大革命後の1981年10月16日に復元されました。
^ 以前は含まれていなかった項目：趙家村漢闕、王家坪漢闕、蒲家湾漢闕、及び第一次公布の際の下記2ヶ所：馮煥闕と沈府君闕が合併し、最終的に「渠県漢闕」と名付けられた。
^ 大生紗廠は第六次交付時に第三次公布の南通博物苑に合併され、第七次公布時には「南通博物苑」から独立。以前に含まれていなかった大生第三紡績会社旧跡と合併し「大生紗廠」となり、それにより第六次全国重点文物保護単位となった。
