2017年10月、当時『Ana』と題された作品にコン・リーがキャストとして参加し、リチャード・ウェンクの脚本でマーティン・キャンベルが監督を務めることが発表された[5]。2019年11月、マイケル・キートン、サミュエル・L・ジャクソン、マギー・Qが本作のキャストに加わったことが発表された[6]。

主要撮影は、『The Asset』というタイトルの下で2020年1月に始まった[7]。撮影自体は、ブカレスト、ロンドン、ダナンで行われた[6]。

本作は、2021年8月20日にライオンズゲート・フィルムズによって劇場公開された[8][9]。
評価

Rotten Tomatoesによれば、113件の評論のうち高評価は62%にあたる70件で、平均点は10点満点中5.8点、批評家の一致した見解は「マギー・Qは彼女にふさわしいアクション映画をまだ待っている。しかし、それまでは『マーベラス』はかろうじて満足できる強さを持っている。」となっている[10]。Metacriticによれば、27件の評論のうち、高評価は10件、賛否混在は10件、低評価は7件で、平均点は100点満点中48点となっている[11]。
