In this particular work, Bigot satirizes the sinking of a French mail ship that was lost off the coast of Shanghai in 1887 by comparing it with the conduct of the British crew of the Normanton.[1] In the picture, we see Captain Drake astride the lifeboat asking the people drowning in the waves, "How much money do you have on you? Quick! Dans cette illustration, Bigot satirise le naufrage d'un navire postal francais au large de Shanghai en 1887 en le comparant avec la conduite de l'equipage britannique du Normanton1.
