注釈^ 一時、王室外でも使用されるようになるが、現在では君主のみが使用できる。

^ メルツァーがこの手紙を書いた1821年は、フランスはフランス復古王政の時代であり、フランス立憲王国以降使用された三色旗であるトリコロールではなく、白一色の国旗が使用されていた。
^ 当時はドイツ連邦。ドイツ連邦の国旗は、現在のドイツ国旗に類似のデザインで、カントンの部分にハプスブルク家の紋章が刻まれていた。
