注釈^ 欧米では趣味や娯楽として狩猟に興じる伝統が盛んで、遊興の狩猟を「ゲーム」と呼ぶことも珍しくない。とはいえ動物を撃ち殺すのが「ゲーム」では国際的理解を得られにくく、印象を変えるためこれら娯楽の狩猟を「スポーツハンティング」と言い換えたりもしている。
^ 通称トロフィールームだが、他にもゲームルームやガンルームと呼ばれたりもする。
^ 略さず書くとInternational Fund for Animal Welfare。直訳だと「国際動物福祉基金」あたりだが、複数の大手国語辞典が「国際動物愛護基金」を定訳としている[8]。
^ 遊興狩猟用の牧場ないし飼育場でトロフィーハンティングした際は、仕留めた動物それぞれに設定された料金を支払う。これを種別料金(species fee)という。後述の#牧場ハンティングを参照。
^ 直訳だと「缶詰にされた(canned)ライオン」。子供の野生ライオンを檻や柵に閉じ込めて繁殖させ、遊興狩猟の標的として販売する産業。ライオンに限らず、柵等で囲われた領域にいる各種動物を仕留める娯楽狩猟をキャンド・ハンティング (canned hunting) という[11]。
^ この非営利組織は、野生生物を絶滅させない持続可能性のある倫理的なハンティング行為を提唱している。詳細は英語版en:Fair chaseを参照。
^ 訳すなら「虚栄心の狩猟」。自慢したりエゴを満たす目的で、捕獲済みの（ツノ等が大きな）動物を多額のお金を払って仕留めること[16]。
^ 例えば日本だと、狩猟免許を取得した人が自治体に登録をして「狩猟者記章」が交付された場合に限り、鳥獣保護法をはじめ各種規定（指定の狩猟鳥獣や狩猟期間など）を守った上でのハンティングなら合法になる。
^ 動物を見たり写真撮影で終わるエコツーリズム前提の野生生物牧場と、トロフィーハンティング前提の遊興狩猟牧場(game ranch)は別物。ドライの話は前者の利点であって、これをトロフィーハンティングにまで適用するのは拡大解釈の詭弁かもしれない。
^ 定訳不明。直訳すると「残酷なスポーツ反対連盟」くらいの意味。
