日本語文献では（特に「ペトログラード音楽院」改称前の時代の記述において）「サンクト」を略し「ス」を挿入した形の「ペテルスブルク音楽院」という表記がしばしば見られるが、必ずしも間違いとは言えない。2004年現在、サンクトペテルブルク音楽院は、275名の音楽教育スタッフと、1400名の学生を抱えている。
