高松市（たかまつし）は、香川県の中部に位置する市。香川県の県庁所在地および最大の都市であり、中核市に指定されている。

旧香川郡・木田郡（三木郡・山田郡）・綾歌郡（阿野郡）で、1890年2月15日の市制当時の区域は旧香川郡の一部から構成された。高松都市圏の中心都市。四国地方において愛媛県松山市に次いで2番目の人口規模を誇る。
概要

瀬戸内海に面する港町で、かつて国鉄の宇高連絡船が就航していたこともあり、四国の玄関口である。1988年に瀬戸大橋が開通したことにより、岡山駅 - 高松駅間は、快速マリンライナーで約1時間程度でアクセスが可能である。また、高松駅からは四国内の各都市を結ぶ特急列車が発着している。四国を統轄する国の出先機関のほとんどや、多くの全国的規模の企業の四国支社や支店、また四国電力やJR四国といった、四国を代表するような企業の本社などが置かれ、四国の政治経済における中心拠点である（中国・四国地方として広島市や岡山市に地域支社が置かれることも多い）。

現在、高松市の人口は平成の大合併などを経て42万人を擁し、さらに高松市を中心とする高松都市圏の人口においては約84万人（2005年国勢調査基準）と、香川県の人口100万人の過半数に達する四国最大の都市圏を形成している。都市圏人口では、愛媛県松山市の松山都市圏を上回る。

江戸時代には御連枝の高松松平家（水戸徳川家の分家）が治める高松藩の城下町として盛え、高松城天守がこの街の象徴であったが明治時代に破却され、現在では2004年に完成した高松シンボルタワーが、それに替わる新しいランドマークとしての機能を果たしている。

また、中心商店街である丸亀町商店街では大規模な再開発が行われており、活気溢れる商店街として多くのメディアで紹介されている。

そして香川県の人口重心は「高松市国分寺町福家」[1]と、高松市中心部からみて南西の市内にあり、県の地理的中心でもある。

高松市は讃岐平野の一部である高松平野に位置し、全体的に緩やかな勾配で占められている。また北側は瀬戸内海に面し、高松港および高松新港（通称新湊）を中心に半円状の市街地を形成している。

市域の西部は香東川の土砂が堆積して出来た扇状地から成っている。東部は春日川や新川によってできた氾濫平野で、その河口部は三角州からなる海岸平野である。
