市内を走る静岡鉄道

静岡市（しずおかし）は、静岡県中部に位置する市。静岡県の県庁所在地であり、政令指定都市のひとつ。県内では浜松市に次ぐ第2位の人口をもつ。

静岡市は、東京と名古屋の太平洋ベルト地帯上のほぼ中間に位置し、静岡県の東西間でもほぼ中央にあり、静岡市葵区・駿河区・清水区の3区の範囲は駿河湾から日本平、静岡平野や清水平野を経て赤石山脈（南アルプス）の県境まで南北に繋がる。気候は非常に温暖穏やかで雪が殆ど降らず、一年を通して晴れ間が広がる[3]。

旧静岡市と旧清水市の新設合併により、2003年4月1日に設置され、2005年4月1日に全国14番目（県内初）の政令指定都市に移行した。市制施行日は全国の政令指定都市の中で最も新しい。人口・面積ともに県内では浜松市に次ぎ第2位である。県西部の浜松市とともに静岡・浜松大都市圏を形成している（都市雇用圏として静岡市単独では静岡都市圏）。
