零式艦上戦闘機（れいしきかんじょうせんとうき）は、第二次世界大戦期における大日本帝国海軍の艦上戦闘機。略称は零戦（ぜろせん/れいせん）。試作名称は十二試艦上戦闘機[1]（略称は十二試艦戦）。
概要

零式艦上戦闘機は、1936年に大日本帝国海軍に制式採用された九六式艦上戦闘機の後継機として開発され、日中戦争から太平洋戦争にかけて戦場で活躍した。

3,000 kmの長大な航続距離、対爆撃機用の20ミリ機銃2門を装備した重武装、格闘戦を重視した優れた運動性能、そして空力的洗練と軽量化を徹底追求した機体設計は1000馬力級の「栄」エンジンの性能を極限まで引き出すに至り、一躍世界の戦闘機の頂点に立った。

しかし、大戦中期以降は、アメリカ陸海軍の対零戦戦法の確立、F4UコルセアやF6Fヘルキャットなど新鋭戦闘機の投入で劣勢となるも、後継機である十七試艦上戦闘機「烈風」の開発が大幅に遅れたことにより、終戦まで日本海軍航空隊の主力戦闘機だった。

大戦末期には、戦闘爆撃機や特攻機としても改造され使用された。

開発元は三菱重工業（以下「三菱」）。三菱に加え中島飛行機でもライセンス生産が行われており、総生産数の6割以上は中島製である。生産数は日本の戦闘機では最多の一万機以上[2]。
