金沢市中心市街地

金沢市（かなざわし）は、石川県のほぼ中央に位置する市。石川県の県庁所在地および人口が最多の市で、中核市、保健所政令市、中枢中核都市に指定されている。旧石川郡及び河北郡。
概要

江戸時代には、江戸幕府（約800万石と言われる）を除いて、大名中最大の102万5千石の石高を領した加賀藩（「加賀百万石」）の城下町として栄え、人口規模では江戸・大坂・京の三都に次ぎ、名古屋と並ぶ大都市であった。第二次世界大戦中にアメリカ軍からの空襲を受けなかったことから市街地に歴史的風情が今なお残っている。空襲の被害者やその遺族が少ない地域という理由から、終戦間もないころには国際交流を目的として来日するアメリカ市民の滞在先としても選ばれた。また、長年の都市文化に裏打ちされた数々の伝統工芸、日本三名園の一つとして知られる兼六園、加賀藩の藩祖・前田利家の金沢入城に因んだ百万石まつり、さらに庶民文化（加賀宝生や郷土料理のじぶ煮など）などにより、観光都市として知られる。2009年にはユネスコの創造都市に認定された（国内では神戸市、名古屋市に続く3番目、クラフト&フォークアート部門ではアジア初）。

日本海側の都市としては政令指定都市である新潟市（約77万人）に次ぐ人口を誇る。北陸の富山県・石川県・福井県を管轄する国の出先機関が置かれ、大企業の「北陸支社」「北陸支店」も金沢市に置かれることも多い。中心市街地の香林坊・片町地区は北陸最大級の商業地として賑わっている。
