西中国山地国定公園は、中国山地の西部、島根県、広島県、山口県に亘る山岳公園である。昭和44年1月10日指定。面積は約285平方km。恐羅漢山、寂地山、冠山、阿佐山など高さ1,200?1,300mの山々が連続し、急斜面から無数の渓谷を生み出している。

この国定公園の特徴は渓谷美にあり、著名な渓谷に広島県の三段峡、島根県の匹見峡、そして山口県の寂地峡がある。また、匹見峡周辺や寂地山にはブナ原生林が広がり、野生のツキノワグマやニホンザルが棲息する。

1969年（昭和44年）1月10日に指定された。
