F-22は、ロッキード・マーティン社とボーイング社が共同開発した、レーダーや赤外線探知装置などからの隠密性が極めて高いステルス戦闘機[3]。愛称は猛禽類の意味のラプター（Raptor）。空戦による戦闘空域の制圧を任務とする制空戦闘機として、開発元のロッキード・マーティン社はAir Dominance（航空支配）というキャッチフレーズを用いている[4]。
