第46回衆議院議員総選挙（だい46かいしゅうぎいんぎいんそうせんきょ）は、2012年（平成24年）12月16日に日本で行われた国会（衆議院）議員の総選挙である[1]。

2009年（平成21年）8月30日に施行された第45回総選挙では、新憲法施行以来初めて保守政党（自由党→自由民主党）直系以外の政党である民主党が単独で過半数を獲得したが、この選挙で当選した衆議院議員の任期が2013年（平成25年）8月29日で満了を迎えるため、同年10月8日までに次の総選挙を行うことが必須となっていた。
選挙前の動向

2012年（平成24年）の第180回国会において、野田佳彦内閣総理大臣・民主党代表は社会保障と税の一体改革を巡る消費税増税法案の採決に際して、近いうちに国民の信を問うことを条件に自由民主党・公明党の協力を取り付け、同法案を成立させた。しかしこの国会中に解散はされずに会期を終えた。その後、9月の民主党代表選挙・自由民主党総裁選挙を経て、10月末に第181回国会が召集されたが、それ以降も解散が行われる気配はなかった。
