1986年（昭和61年）撮影の笠間市中心部周辺の空中写真。国土交通省 国土地理院 地図・空中写真閲覧サービスの空中写真を基に作成。

笠間市（かさまし）は、関東地方の北東部、茨城県中部の県央地域に位置する市である。

古くから日本三大稲荷に数えられる笠間稲荷神社の鳥居前町として、また笠間城の城下町として栄えてきた。最近では笠間焼の生産地として知られ、春や秋に行われる陶器市の時期には、多くの観光客で賑わう。

2006年3月19日に笠間市（旧制）、旧西茨城郡（友部町、岩間町）の1市2町が新設合併し、新制の笠間市として発足した。
地理

茨城県の中部に位置し、北西部に八溝山系が穏やかに連なる丘陵地帯で、西部には吾国山南西部には愛宕山が位置する。
