福井県（ふくいけん）は、日本の中部地方に位置する県。令制国の越前国と若狭国に相当する。県庁所在地は福井市。

北陸地方で最も人口が少ない県である。
概要

山中峠・木ノ芽峠・栃ノ木峠を通る稜線を境にして、北側の嶺北（越前地方）と、南側の嶺南（若狭地方および敦賀市）より構成される。

また日本海及び若狭湾の福井県海域には周囲0.1km以上の島が58あるが全て無人島で、常神半島沖の岩礁である千島で約3kmの距離しか離れていない。

越前の緑豊かな山々と、若狭の清らかな水の流れに代表されるように自然が美しい場所であり、それを代表する語に越山若水（えつざんじゃくすい）がある。

地理上は北陸地方または中部地方と分類されるが、行政管轄区分において近畿地方とされる場合もある（国土交通省の近畿地方整備局など）。 嶺南地方は滋賀県や京都府と隣接しており、北陸地方の中では最も関西エリアとの繋がりが深い。

気候

ケッペンの気候区分では県内全域が温暖湿潤気候であるが、日本海側気候であり県内全域が豪雪地帯（一部特別豪雪地帯）に指定されている。特別豪雪地帯の大野市・勝山市・池田町・南越前町の旧今庄町は全国屈指の積雪量であり、大野市では年間降雪量500cm、最深積雪100cmを超える[1]。

福井市などは内陸に位置するため、沿岸部に面する富山市や金沢市などよりは豪雪となりやすい。過去には1963年1月31日に213cm、近年でも2018年2月7日に積雪147cmを記録しているなど1m以上の積雪となることもある[1]。

一方、日本海沿岸部では対馬暖流の影響により冬でも比較的暖かく、雪よりも雨の日が多い。

年間の降水日数は170日あり[1]、「弁当忘れても傘忘れるな」という天気の格言が存在する[注釈 1]。
