神奈川県（かながわけん）は、日本の関東地方に位置する県。県庁所在地は横浜市。都道府県別の人口では東京都に次ぐ第2位[1]、昼間人口及び人口密度は東京都、大阪府に次ぐ第3位である。県内総生産は東京都、大阪府、愛知県に次ぐ第4位となっている[2]。

県内の市町村数は33で、うち市は19、町は13、村は1（清川村）である。県内の政令指定都市は全国で唯一の3市（横浜市・川崎市・相模原市）、中核市は横須賀市の1市、施行時特例市は小田原市・大和市・平塚市・厚木市・茅ヶ崎市の5市である。藤沢市は人口が30万人を超えているが、中核市に指定されていない。
概要

神奈川県は関東地方の南西部に位置する県で首都圏の一角を成し、元の相模国全域と武蔵国の一部が該当する。面積は2416.33平方キロメートル（km2）で国土の約0.6%を占め[3]、これは都道府県中第43位の規模である[3][注釈 3]。人口は9,218,071人（2024年4月1日現在）[4] で、総人口の約6.9%を占める。みなとみらい（横浜市）の夜景

東日本に属するが、場合によっては中日本に分類されることもある。例として県内を通る東名高速道路と中央自動車道、小田原厚木道路は中日本高速道路の管轄である。

県庁所在地である横浜市を中心に企業の進出が活発であり、2021年の神奈川県への本社移転数は327社で東京都に次ぐ第2位。転入超過は146社で全国トップとなっている。また、32年連続で県内転入が県外転出を上回っている[5]。日本の都道府県で唯一、県内に3つの政令指定都市（横浜市・川崎市・相模原市）を有している。特に県庁所在地の横浜市の人口は約370万人であり、日本の基礎自治体の中で最大の人口を誇る。一方で東京都区部（23区）に通勤通学する人も多く、県内の昼夜間人口比率は90弱程度である[6]。
