歴史

1889年（明治22年）4月1日 - 町村制公布により牛深村・久玉村・深海村・魚貫村・早浦村・亀浦村の6村が誕生。

1898年（明治31年）11月13日 - 牛深村が牛深町となる。

1948年（昭和23年）4月1日 - 早浦村と亀浦村が合併し、二浦村となる。

1954年（昭和29年）7月1日 - 牛深町と久玉・深海・魚貫・二浦の4村が合併し、牛深市が発足。

1957年（昭和32年）3月1日 - 牛深市の一部（路木地区）が河浦町に編入。

2006年（平成18年）3月27日 - 本渡市・有明町・御所浦町・倉岳町・栖本町・新和町・五和町・天草町・河浦町と合併し、天草市となる。
