今川義元の墓（明治9年（1876年）5月建立）桶狭間古戦場伝説地（愛知県豊明市）内

桶狭間の戦い（おけはざまのたたかい）は、永禄3年5月19日（1560年6月12日）に尾張国知多郡桶狭間での織田信長軍と今川義元軍の合戦。2万5千人の大軍を率い尾張に侵攻した今川義元に対し、尾張の織田信長が本陣を奇襲、または正面から攻撃し[2]、今川義元を討ち取った。

戦後、東海地方を制圧していた今川家が没落する一方、織田信長は尾張を完全統一したうえ畿内制圧へと台頭するきっかけとなった。
