杉並区（すぎなみく）は、東京都の区部西部に位置する特別区。
概要・地理[ソースを編集]

元来この地域は武蔵国多摩郡であり、江戸時代から明治・大正時代も多摩地域に属していた。地理的に東京都区部の扱いになったのは、世界恐慌後の1932年に東京市へ編入されてからである。

旧豊多摩郡西部にあたり、城西地区と呼ばれる東京23区の西部に位置する。面積は34.02平方キロメートルで、東京23区の中では8番目である。自然が豊富な、閑静な住宅地域として発展してきた。JR中央線沿線（高円寺・阿佐ケ谷・荻窪・西荻窪駅周辺など）を中心として、商店街が発達しており、地元住民だけでなく区外からの来街者を想定した個性的な中小店舗群も集まっている[1]。
