新生児死亡率（しんせいじ しぼうりつ、英語: neonatal mortality rate、NMR）とは、年間の出生千対の新生児（生後28日未満の児）の死亡数である。年間の出生千対の早期新生児（生後7日未満の児）の死亡数は早期新生児死亡率、年間の出生千対の乳児（生後1歳未満の児）の死亡数は乳児死亡率と呼ばれる。
概要

医療・衛生状態による国・地域ごとの差が大きい。国際連合児童基金（ユニセフ）の2017年時点推計による1000人当たりの死亡数で、最も高いグループは184位のパキスタン（45.6人）、183位の中央アフリカ共和国（42.3人）、182位のアフガニスタン（40.0人）。低いのは3位のシンガポール（1.1人）、2位のアイスランド（1.0人）で、「赤ちゃんが最も安全に生まれる国」は日本（0.9人）。

世界全体では約260万人の新生児が死亡し、うち約100万人が生まれたその日に死んだとみられる。死因は早産や出産時の合併症、肺炎などの感染症が多く、清潔な水や消毒剤があれば防げた事例が多かった[1]。
目標

全ての国が新生児死亡率を少なくとも出生1,000件中12件以下まで減らし、５歳以下死亡率を少なくとも出生1,000件中25件以下まで減らすことを目指し、 2030年までに、新生児及び５歳未満児の予防可能な死亡を根絶する。
