新潟市の合併市町村

新津市（にいつし）は、新潟県にかつてあった市である。2005年3月21日の新潟市への編入合併によって消滅し、政令指定都市に移行した現在は旧小須戸町域とともに秋葉区を構成している。

以下の記述は合併直前当時の（旧）新津市に関しての記述であり、現在では名称等が異なる場合がある。なお、ここに記述されていない内容に関しては秋葉区などの記事を参照。

新潟市（旧：西蒲原郡黒埼町を除く）への通勤率は28.4%（平成12年国勢調査）。
概要往時の新津油田

その名の通り船着き場として発生した新津は江戸時代は新発田藩領の在郷町・大庄屋町として六斎市で賑わい、街道が分岐する交通の要衝の町として発展していた[1][2]。明治期には中蒲原郡の郡役所が置かれ、かつて優位にあった白根や小須戸を凌いで郡域の政治・文化の中心的役割を担うようになったほか、影響力は隣接する東蒲原郡にも大きく及んだ[3]。

産業面では、明治・大正期以降に新津油田を中心とした石油のまち[4]、新津駅を中心とした鉄道のまち[5]として栄える。その後は花き花木、球根の生産地としても栄え、「花とみどりと石油の里」をキャッチフレーズにしていた[6]。
地理

市の南方は新津丘陵が広がる。新津丘陵の周囲は平野部となっている。市の東側には阿賀野川、西側には信濃川が、北側には阿賀野川･信濃川を結ぶ小阿賀野川が流れている。また、市の中心部を南北に、新津川（能代川）が流れている。能代川には鮭が遡上してくる。

歴史

古津八幡山遺跡と古墳が出来ていた。

戦国時代には上杉氏のもと、新津勝資が支配(新津城)

江戸時代は、新発田藩新津組大庄屋の桂家が治める。

1889年（明治22年）4月1日 - 町村制施行に伴う合併により、新津町・三興野村・阿賀浦村・満日村・川結村・荻野村・小梅村・小鹿村・津島村・新関村が発足。

1897年（明治30年）11月20日 - 北越鉄道（現：信越本線）開通、新津駅開業。

1901年（明治34年）11月1日 - 合併により、荻川村・小合村・金津村が発足し、新津町が三興野村を編入。

1925年（大正14年）11月1日 - 阿賀浦村、満日村を編入。

1926年（大正15年）4月28日 - 小作争議が過激化、地主宅に小作人150人余が詰めかけ使用人が激しい暴行を受ける[7]。

1939年（昭和14年） - 荻川村を編入。

1951年（昭和26年）1月1日 - 市制施行により新津市となる[8]。
