愛宕山からみた延岡市中心部北浦町古江

延岡市（のべおかし）は、宮崎県北部にある市。中心地域は宮崎県北部の中心都市としての性格を有する。

戦前より宮崎県内屈指の工業都市で、旧北方町、旧北浦町、旧北川町との2007年の合併前の延岡市地域は旭化成の創業地工場群があるいわゆる企業城下町として栄えた。

東は日向灘に面し、その他は山に囲まれている。五ヶ瀬川・大瀬川・祝子川・北川・沖田川・浜川など多くの河川が市内を流れ、豊かな水郷としての性格を持つ。延岡市東側の海岸は日豊海岸国定公園に、北西部は祖母傾国定公園に指定されている。

山: 大崩山 (1644m)、地蔵岳 (1388m)[1]、行縢山 (830m)、愛宕山 (251m)、可愛岳、鏡山

河川: 五ヶ瀬川、大瀬川、祝子川、北川、沖田川、浜川

海域: 日向灘 - 今後発生が予見されている南海トラフ巨大地震の際には、市内の海岸に最大11mの津波が到達することが予想されている[1]。
