守山市（もりやまし）は、かつて愛知県に存在した市。

現在の名古屋市守山区に該当する。昭和の大合併で、愛知県では唯一廃止された市である[注 2]。名古屋市のベッドタウンとして発展したが、守山市が誕生してすぐに名古屋市と合併の動きがあり、市として存在した期間は9年程である。

庄内川、矢田川沿いに位置し、東部は標高100m前後の丘陵地帯である。「守山」は「森山」が転じた地名と推測され[注 3]、近世以前は「森山」と表記される文献もある。

同名の市として滋賀県守山市があるが、滋賀県守山市は1970年に市制施行であり、重複とはなっていない。

守山市役所が存在していた場所は、現在守山図書館となっている。

歴史

戦国時代初期、尾張国山田郡が分割され、春日井郡と愛知郡に編入される[注 5]。

1521年（大永元年） - 松平信定により、守山城が築かれる[2]。

1535年（天文4年） - 三河国岡崎城主・松平清康が、守山城で家臣の阿部正豊に暗殺される[2]（森山崩れ）。

江戸時代、この地域は尾張国春日井郡であり、尾張藩領であった[3]。

1878年（明治11年） - 大森垣外村と牛牧村が合併し、大森垣外村となる[4]。

1880年（明治13年）2月5日 - 春日井郡が東春日井郡と西春日井郡に分割され、この地域は東春日井郡となる。

1889年（明治22年）10月1日 -

守山村、川村、金屋坊村、大森垣内村、大永寺村が合併し、二城村となる[5]。

幸心村と瀬古村が合併し、高間村となる[6]。

大森村と森孝新田が合併し、大森村となる[7]。


1897年（明治30年） - 旧日本陸軍第3師団第5旅団歩兵第33連隊が名古屋市中区から移駐。

1906年（明治39年）7月16日 - 二城村、高間村、大森村、小幡村が合併し町制施行。
