国道292号（こくどう292ごう）は、群馬県吾妻郡長野原町から新潟県妙高市に至る一般国道である。
概要

本国道は、群馬県吾妻郡長野原町の国道406号交点から草津温泉（吾妻郡草津町）や渋峠、志賀高原（長野県下高井郡山ノ内町）、飯山市を経由しながら北西方向に進み、新潟県妙高市（上越市の国道18号上新バイパス寺町交差点付近）までを結ぶ路線である。

吾妻郡長野原町 - 吾妻郡草津町の区間は2つのルートがあり、西側の区間は一般有料道路の草津道路として1964年（昭和39年）に開通した。当初、吾妻郡長野原町 - 吾妻郡草津町間は草津道路経由のみが指定されたが、1980年代に吾妻郡六合村[注釈 1]を経由する区間が追加指定された。
