和歌山市（わかやまし）は、和歌山県の北部に位置する都市。和歌山県の県庁所在地及び県内で人口が最多の市で、中核市に指定されている。

政令指定都市でないものの、人口密度は政令指定都市である仙台市や広島市などよりも高い。

県人口の約40%が暮らしている。中世には海南市の一部とともに「雑賀の里」と称された[1]。江戸時代には徳川家の御三家の一つである紀伊徳川家が治める和歌山藩の城下町として栄え、「若山」とも表記された。戦前には、中心市街地のぶらくり丁商店街は大阪・ミナミと比肩する繁華街として栄華を極めたが、現在はシャッター商店街に衰退している[2][3]。
