吉原市（よしわらし）は、静岡県東部にあった市である。1966年（昭和41年）11月1日に（旧）富士市、富士郡鷹岡町と合併し、富士市となった。
概要

江戸時代には東海道の宿場町吉原宿があった。

吉原宿は当初現在の元吉原（JR東海道本線吉原駅がある）にあったが、1639年と1680年の高潮により、現在の富士市依田原付近、続いて吉原本町へと2度移転した。移転により東海道は大きく湾曲することになり、それまで（江戸から京に向かった場合）右手に見えていた富士山が左手に見えることから"左富士"と呼ばれる景勝地となった。往時は歌川広重の絵にあるような松並木であったが現在は一本の松の木が残るのみである。
歴史

1889年（明治22年）4月1日 - 町村制施行により、富士郡吉原宿が吉原町（初代）となる。

1940年（昭和15年）4月1日 - 富士郡島田村を編入する。

1941年（昭和16年）4月3日 - 富士郡伝法村を編入する。

1942年（昭和17年）6月14日 - 富士郡今泉村と合併し、吉原町（2代目）となる。

1948年（昭和23年）4月1日 - 市制施行により、吉原市（初代）となる。

1955年（昭和30年）

2月11日 - 富士郡元吉原村、須津村、吉永村、原田村と合併し、吉原市（2代目）となる。
