日光脇往還（にっこうわきおうかん）は、江戸時代に八王子から日光まで、また鴻巣の追分まで、中山道と街道を同じくし、ここで分岐し袋村（埼玉県鴻巣市）・行田・上新郷（埼玉県羽生市）・利根川を川俣の渡しで越え、館林・佐野・栃木・今市と経て日光街道に合流する、1652年（承応元年）に往還に定められた街道である[1]。またの名は「日光裏街道」。

沿道では日光道、日光街道などとも呼ばれていたが、江戸と日光を結ぶ日光街道と区別するために、八王子街道（八王子道）、千人同心街道、日光火の番街道、館林道などとも呼ばれたが、沿道に残る遺構などでは日光街道とされているものが多いようである。その名の通り八王子千人同心の日光勤番への移動のために整備された街道である。

遺跡としては、埼玉県日高市から鶴ヶ島市にかけての国道407号は「日光街道杉並木」という名称で杉並木が残るほか、東京都西多摩郡瑞穂町の青梅街道との交点に「旧日光街道交差点」、東京都福生市の玉川上水に架けられた橋には「日光橋」などの名称が残っている。また、埼玉県坂戸市には日光街道の碑が建てられている。

なお、佐野宿（天明宿）以北は日光例幣使街道、楡木宿以北は壬生通りと共通となる。鴻巣以北の周辺の主要街道の略図。
