北秋田市（きたあきたし）は、秋田県の北部にある市。鷹巣盆地のほぼ中央に大館能代空港がある。
概要綴子大太鼓 出陣行列
2005年（平成17年）3月22日に北秋田郡の鷹巣町、合川町、森吉町、阿仁町が合併して市制施行した。
1878年（明治11年）の郡区町村編制法公布後、鷹巣に郡役所が置かれ、行政の中心地であった。JR鷹ノ巣駅南側は、２つの商店街が真っ直ぐに延び、国や県の出先機関、金融機関や医療機関、公共施設が集積し、市役所が設置されている。「綴子大太鼓」は国の記録作成等の措置を講ずべき無形の民俗文化財、「伊勢堂岱遺跡」は「北海道・北東北の縄文遺跡群」を構成する遺跡の一つとして、2021年7月に世界文化遺産に登録された。
