社名は、1月1日生まれの創業者で現代表取締役会長の舩木元旦[1][2]の名前に由来し、同社のラジオCMでも「元旦は会長（社長）の名前です」と説明している。名前の読みは「がんたん」ではなく「もとかつ」、元々は舩木の愛称であった。
CM

テレビ・ラジオCMが不定期に放送されている。かつては歌手の田端義夫をイメージキャラクターに起用したCMを流していたことがある[3]。

元旦内樋という製品のテレビCM 「気になるジングル」篇[4]では、「元旦内樋」というワードを繰り返す事で、製品名が視聴者の記憶に残るように工夫がされている。
脚注・出典^ 一時、創業家の舩木亮亮（ふなきあきふさ）が代表取締役社長を務めていたが、一身上の理由で退任し取締役相談役になったため、2022年4月から再び代表取締役社長を兼任していたが、翌2023年4月からは創業家以外の取締役副社長が代表取締役社長に昇格して務めている。
