ケネス・ブライアン・エドモンズ (Kenneth Brian Edmonds、1958年[1]4月10日 - ) は、ベイビーフェイス （Babyface）の名で知られるアメリカのシンガーソングライター、音楽プロデューサーである。インディアナ州インディアナポリス出身。

来歴

1970年代から1980年代半ばにかけては、マンチャイルド、ディールなどのバンド・メンバーとして活動していた。ディールにおいては自身のボーカルによるヒット曲も生んでいる。

ディールで活動を共にしたアントニオ "L.A." リード（現Island/Def Jam Music Group会長）と共同で音楽プロデューサーとして1980年代中盤から活動を開始（1989年にはリードとラフェイス・レコードを共同設立している）、ウィスパーズ「Rock Steady」（1987年）、ペブルス「ガールフレンド」（1987年）などのヒット曲で頭角を現し、その後、ボビー・ブラウン、ジョニー・ギル、キャリン・ホワイト、ホイットニー・ヒューストン、TLC、トニ・ブラクストン、セリーヌ・ディオン、マライア・キャリー、エリック・クラプトン、マドンナ、ジェイ・Z、フォクシー・ブラウンなどの楽曲のプロデュースでヒット曲を連発した。

特に、トニ・ブラクストンの紹介も兼ねた映画『ブーメラン』のサウンドトラック（1992年）から誕生したボーイズIIメン「End of the Road」はビルボードシングルチャートで連続13週、「I'll Make Love to You」（1994年）は連続14週連続1位を記録するメガヒットとなり、グラミー賞においては、作曲家・プロデューサーとして、ベストR&Bソング、ベストプロデューサー、レコード・オブ・ザ・イヤーなどを幾度も受賞するなど、プロデューサーの地位を不動のものとした。

ベイビーフェイス自身も、1980年代後半からソロ・シンガーとして活動している。主に、シンガーとしてのほかに、ピアノ、キーボード、ギター全般、プログラミングを一人でこなし、作詞、作曲、編曲、プロデュースも一人でこなすマルチプレイヤーである。曲によっては共作も多く行う。

芸名は、ディール時代にブーツィー・コリンズから「童顔」（Babyface）と呼ばれたことに由来する。

1994年に放送された『ビバリーヒルズ青春白書』の最終回でゲスト出演（本人役）したことがある。

妻トレーシーとは、共にレーベル設立や映画製作を行ってきたが、2005年10月に離婚。13年間の結婚生活であった。

ベイビーフェイスの兄弟の2人は、L.A.リードの従兄弟と共にアフター7として活動していた。その内のひとりであるケヴォン・エドモンズは、アフター7解散後はソロ・シンガーとして活動している。それらの活動のいずれにもベイビーフェイスが楽曲提供やプロデュースで関与。
作風

1980年代から1990年代初頭にかけては、活動を共にしていたL.A.リード（彼はディールにおいてはドラマーであった）の影響もあり、リズムとビートを強調したダンスナンバーか、コンテンポラリー色の強い都会的なラブバラードが中心だったが、1990年代中頃にL.A.リードとのコンビ活動を解消すると、1993年の自演曲「When Can I See You」や、1996年のエリック・クラプトンに対するプロデュース曲「チェンジ・ザ・ワールド」に代表されるような、アコースティックでフォーキーなミディアム/スロー中心というスタイルに傾いていった。それでもプロデュースで提供する曲は、現在に至るまでも幅広く、アップからミディアム、スロージャムまで幅広くこなす。

マドンナの最大のヒット曲「テイク・ア・バウ」では東アジア・テイスト、クリセット・ミッシェルの「Best of Me」ではボサノヴァ・テイストと、R&Bのカテゴリーに収まらない曲調でも才能を発揮している。
