マルカントワーヌ・シャルパンティエは「陰鬱さや哀れさを表す」、マッテゾンは「温和で落ち着いていると同時に、深く重苦しく、何かしら絶望と関係があるような死ぬほどの心の不安を表す」とそれぞれ述べている。
