フォークランド諸島の位置。アルゼンチン沖、南米大陸南端から500km沖に位置する。フォークランド諸島は、東西の主要2島と多数の小島からなる。

フォークランド紛争（フォークランドふんそう、英語: Falklands War、スペイン語: Guerra de las Malvinas）は、南大西洋のイギリス領フォークランド諸島（アルゼンチン名：マルビナス諸島）[注 1]の領有を巡って1982年に発生したイギリスとアルゼンチンの間の紛争である。

同年3月、アルゼンチン軍はフォークランド諸島・サウスジョージア侵攻を成功させたものの、これに対してイギリス軍は航空母艦や原子力潜水艦などを含む機動部隊を派遣して反攻に転じ、欧州共同体（EC）などの協力も得て6月に勝利した。敗れたアルゼンチンではレオポルド・ガルチェリ政権が崩壊し、後の民政移管の引き金を引くこととなった。

冷戦下で近代化された西側諸国の軍隊同士による初めての紛争であり、「兵器の実験場」とも称された[2]。
概要

1982年3月19日にアルゼンチン海軍艦艇がフォークランド諸島東方のイギリス領サウスジョージア島に2度にわたって寄港し、無断で民間人を装って海兵隊員を上陸させた[3]。

これに対し、イギリスは氷海警備船と海兵隊員を派遣するとともに、紛争回避のため、アルゼンチン軍部隊の退去を条件として外交交渉で妥協する用意があることを伝えたが、既にアルゼンチン側は強硬姿勢を明確にしており、外交交渉での事態打開は困難となっていた[3]。イギリスの要請を受けてアメリカ合衆国も仲介に乗り出し、首脳間の電話会談も行われたが、説得は失敗であった[3]。

4月1日深夜よりアルゼンチン軍によるフォークランド諸島侵攻[4]、また4月3日にはサウスジョージア侵攻が行われた[5]。
