O Centro e um bairro da Regiao Central da cidade do Rio de Janeiro, representando o coracao financeiro da cidade, e o ponto nevralgico da Regiao Central.

Apesar de ainda possuir grande numero de residencias, o bairro e eminentemente comercial, sendo sua parte mais valorizada o chamado Micro-Centro, representado pelo perimetro entre a Avenida Presidente Antonio Carlos e a Avenida Rio Branco, entre a Avenida Nilo Pecanha e a Rua do Ouvidor. La podemos encontrar desde os predios historicos a modernos Arranha-Ceus, como e o caso dos Edificios De Paoli, Avenida Central, Lineu de Paula Machado e Torre Almirante. Suas areas residenciais sao, principalmente, junto a Lapa e Cinelandia, a Avenida Beira-Mar, e as circunvizinhancas da Rua do Riachuelo.

The Centro neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro is the historic centre and financial centre of the city.[1]. It is also popularly called Central and Central do Brasil. Sites of interest include the Paco Imperial, Candelaria Church, the Old Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro, and the modern-style Rio de Janeiro Cathedral. Around the Cinelandia square there are several landmarks of the Belle Epoque such as the Municipal Theatre and the national Library building. The Centro area also has several museums such as the National Museum of Fine Arts and the National Historical Museum. Other important historical attractions in central Rio include its Passeio Publico, an 18th-century public garden, as well as the imposing arches of the Carioca Aqueduct. A bondinho (tram) leaves from a city center station, crosses the aqueduct (converted to a tram viaduct in 1896) and rambles through the hilly streets of the Santa Teresa neighbourhood nearby.Downtown remains the heart of the city's business community. Some of the largest companies in Brazil have their head offices here, including Petrobras, Eletrobras and Vale. Most of Rio's skyscrapers, especially the tallest ones, are located in this neighbourhood.
